year old female presents with a history of a swollen painful left leg. 10 days
prior to presentation she had been discharged from hospital after undergoing a
femoral hernia repair. 6 years previously she had a deep vein thrombosis of
her left leg following an abdominal hysterectomy.
On
examination you note that her left lower limb is swollen, erythematous and the
superficial veins are engorged.
Ultrasound confirms a popliteo-femoral deep venous thrombosis.
