A 74 year old male presents with a
history of breathlessness. He has mild diet controlled diabetes mellitus but
apart from this he had been reasonably well. He smoked 10 cigarettes a day and
consumed 12 units of alcohol per week. He was a retired lawyer.
On examination he did not appear to have
lost weight, he looked pale and there was generalised lymphadenopathy and
splenomegaly.

Hb 6.3 g/dL
WBC 120 x109 /L
Platelets 45 x109/L
Blood film showed mainly mature
lymphocytes
